Sandamal was called to the bar in 2004 and soon thereafter he had the opportunity of working in the Chambers of Mr. Desmond Fernando, President’s Counsel, where he was junior to Mr. Fernando until 2008 and gained valuable knowledge and experience and became familiar with the intricacies of the practice at an early stage. He thereafter joined the Chambers of Mr. Upul Jayasuriya, President’s Counsel and has since further enhanced his practice and commenced his own private practice. Sandamal has over the years been involved in several landmark cases such as the Anthony Emmanual Fundamental Rights Case, Presidential Election Petition case in 2010 and also the Fundamental Rights Case 278/08 where he was Counsel for the Petitioner (On the question of substitution in a fundamental Rights application.)
Sandamal specializes in areas of Civil litigation such as Commercial Law, Admiralty Law, Customs Inquiry Cases, Fundamental Rights applications, matters of Arbitration, Writ Applications, Land Law, Labour Law and also drafting Commercial Agreements and Criminal matters in the Court of first instance and Criminal Appeals. He also advises on IT Law related matters.
Sandamal obtained his Masters in Law from the University of Colombo in Advance Company Law, Arbitration Law and International Trade Law. He also possesses several other qualifications such as a Diploma in Arbitration (ICPL Arbitration Centre, Colombo), an International Diploma in Arbitration (College of Law, London), an International Diploma in Intellectual Property Law (College of Law, London) and a Diploma in Forensic Medicine (University of Colombo)
Sandamal is a member of British Computer Society (MBCS) and also a member of Australian Computer Society and he has an extensive knowledge and experience of IT contacts and Information Technology Law and related issues.
